Inspired by my essay, Ed Fella and the Deconstruction of Typography and Design, I embarked on creating a zine that embraces the postmodernist ethos while weaving in elements of my personal design flair. Postmodernism, as I delve into in my essay, defies strict definition, but I endeavored to capture its essence through the inclusion of vibrant colors and experimental design techniques within the zine. Measuring a modest 4” x 6”, this pocket-sized booklet serves as a homage to the pioneers of postmodern aesthetics, inviting readers to explore a dynamic fusion of styles and ideas.
The final image features a scanned copy of the original cover, creatively crafted on a backdrop of newsprint. I meticulously taped and glued various magazine clippings to form the title and other embellishments, culminating in the cover displayed in the completed work. This method aligns with the concept of postmodernist design, characterized by its bold, unconventional, and at times, provocative aesthetic.
